SARAJEVO, July 16 (FENA) - The Council of Europe’s Action Plan for BiH for the period 2018-2021 was presented today in the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sarajevo.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Igor Crnadak explained that the Action Plan covers all spheres of society, and among the main ones are the judiciary, the police, fight against corruption, the issue of national minorities, the issue of combating discrimination, freedom of the media, freedom of expression, support to the pre-election process, and activities in the fight against human trafficking.

“The Action Plan was developed in cooperation with all levels of government and is supported by all the competent institutions, together with governments of the Federation of BiH and RS. Given that membership in the European Union is our top priority, the Action Plan is based on the key elements of BiH's accession process to the European Union,” said Crnadak.

He emphasized that he was very pleased that this document puts justice at the top, together with the police and the fight against corruption, because he thinks that it is precisely this step that needs to be taken in these areas in BiH, and recalled that a major step forward has been made in comparison to the previous Action Plan.

“We need a significant step forward in these fields more than anything else. A significant accent has been placed on solving the problems with education in FBiH. The Council of Europe's report stated that BiH has made a major step forward in implementing the previous two-year Action Plan,” underlined the Foreign Minister.

The total value of the Action Plan is around EUR 18 million, of which EUR 2.7 million has already been provided.

The funds will be provided by the European Union, the Council of Europe and other donor countries.

Head of the Office of the Council of Europe in BiH Drahoslav Stefanek pointed out that the Action Plan has been accepted at all levels of government in BiH, and approved by all 47 member states of the Council of Europe.

"This is a great example of what happens when domestic interests are matched witj international interests and goals," said Stefanek.
