Zvizdić: BiH has no capacity nor does it want to be a regional admission center

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 19 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić convened today in Sarajevo a meeting of representatives of BiH institutions, EU representatives and international organizations, regarding the overall migrant situation and further improvement of cooperation and coordination in providing support to competent bodies of BiH on taking measures to address the issue of illegal migration, and adequate reception and accommodation of refugees and migrants in BiH.

Zvizdić thanked the European Union for the assistance it has provided BiH in this matter. He stressed that "we want to be part of an integral solution to be implemented by the EU institutions because Bosnia and Herzegovina has no capacity nor does it want to be a regional admission center".

He added that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will insist on the respect and enforcement of the laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in particular the Law on the Stay of Foreign Nationals.

Zvizdić said that Bosnia and Herzegovina will step up the border control towards Montenegro and Serbia and continue to shut down illegal crossings.

He requested that members of FRONTEX come to BiH and with their expertise and experience provide assistance to the state Border Police.

Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić said it is very important to resolve the issue of migrant accommodation as soon as possible.

He added that the most logical decision would be to have this facility somewhere in the Una-Sana Canton (USC) where the concentration of migrants is the greatest.

Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and EU Special Representative of the European Union, said that the most serious issue at the moment is the solution for accommodation of illegal migrants in the USC area and that border controls should be intensified and sign the agreement with FRONTEX as soon as possible.

Representatives of the IOM have pointed out that they are already working on preparing the barracks in Hadžići to serve as an admission center.

The meeting was also attended by BiH Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Semiha Borovac, Director of the Border Police of BiH Zoran Galić and representatives of the Foreigners’ Affairs Serice, as well as representatives of IOM and UNHCR, said the BiH CoM.
