SARAJEVO, July 25 (FENA) - Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in BiH, Peter Van der Auweraert, and the Vice-Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) María Sánchez-Yebra Alonso signed today the Grant Agreement worth one million euros to equip the migrant center.

Head of the IOM Mission Auweraert, stressed that in the next few days, the establishment of a migrant accommodation center in Ušivak in the municipality of Hadžići will begin with the assistance of the Development Bank of the Council of Europe.

“This is just a part of the overall plan of the BiH Ministry of Security to find a solution for the accommodation of migrants and refugees found in the territory of Sarajevo,” explained Auweraert and thanked the Municipality of Hadžići and citizens who showed their tolerance and humanity in accepting migrants that should serve as an example to the whole world.

He is convinced that in the next five to six weeks, an appropriate solution for the migrant crisis in BiH would be found.

Vice Governor Alonso said that the money is intended for the full equipping of the center for 400 people and that the grant was allocated to the Council of Ministers of BiH, but that the project will be implemented by the IOM, with which the Bank has excellent cooperation.

“This financial support will help to make the project very successful and it is support for BiH to solve the problem of humanitarian crisis and the increased migrants' influx,” said Alonso.

She underlined that this is not the first time that the Bank has assisted BiH, and that they have previously given loans and support to resolve the issue of collective centers in BiH worth 60 million euros.

Assistant to the Minister of Security of BiH for International Cooperation and European Integration Samir Rizvo pointed out that migration flows on the territory of BiH are happening at a uniform pace, and yesterday's data show that the number of registered migrants exceeded 9,000.

“Our estimate is that half of this number is in the Una-Sana and Sarajevo cantons, and smaller number in the rest of the country” said Rizvo.

Rizvo also noted that the center will be operational in the next two to three weeks.
