SARAJEVO, August 8 (FENA) - The Embassy of Indonesia in Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted a reception today on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), at the residence of the country’s Ambassador Amelia Achmad Yani in Sarajevo.

The reception was attended by representatives of embassies in BiH, member states of ASEAN, Indonesia and Malaysia, with their families.

Ambassador Yani reminded that ASEAN is an alliance of ten member states.

"Our plan is to cooperate with the Balkan countries in the future, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our goal is to achieve cooperation, primarily in the economy sector, "said Ambassador of Indonesia.

Indonesia has so far stressed that it has cooperated with BiH in the sectors of tourism, education and trade.

"We have established cooperation with five BiH universities, and we are working on connecting even further,” said Ambassador Yani.

Speaking about tourism, the ambassador noted in particular that Indonesia has achieved cooperation with 169 countries when it comes to visa-free travel and tourists’ stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days, including those from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ambassador Yani added that she hopes that BiH in return would abolish visas for Indonesian citizens in the near future.

Malaysian Ambassador to BiH Zakar Jaafar emphasized that ASEAN as an organization promotes unity, prosperity, stability and economic sustainability.

He stressed that the representative offices of two Asian states in BiH are trying to achieve the best possible impact through culture, education and economic support.

"Throughout the years we have proved that we want to be true partners and want to help this country," said Jaafar.

The proof of this, added Jaafar, is the repeated presence of Malaysia and Indonesia at the Sarajevo Business Forum.

He expressed hope that other members of ASEAN will also open their representative offices in BiH.

ASEAN is a regional international organization of states in Southeast Asia, established in 1967, with the aim of developing mutual political, economic and cultural relations and promoting regional peace and stability. The headquarters of ASEAN is in Jakarta.
