Newly-appointed British Ambassador Matthew Field takes over his duty in Sarajevo

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 5 (FENA) - The newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to BiH Matthew Field today presented credentials to the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegović and said that the commitment of the UK Government to Bosnia and Herzegovina is stronger than ever, because between these two countries have built a partnership based on mutual trust, honesty and concrete cooperation.

“It is my great pleasure and privilege, on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, to take over the duty of British Ambassador in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The relations between our two countries are close and long-lasting. It is a partnership based on mutual trust, sincerity and cooperation,” said Field.

He said that during his term in office he will continue to build strong foundations, including the British-German initiative, which the United Kingdom Government has been committed in order to help BiH to be a prosperous country.

“As it was announced at the Summit on the Western Balkans in July in London, we will double our assistance to the development of the region, and therefore to this country. We will continue to support your institutions, business leaders, judges, police officers, soldiers, teachers and young people. Together and in partnership, we are ready to do a lot more.

The fact that the citizens of the United Kingdom have decided to leave the European Union will change a lot of things. But this will in no case diminish our support to the aspirations of BiH citizens for Euro-Atlantic integration. On the contrary, Brexit will mean greater, not lesser presence of the United Kingdom here,” Field pointed out.

Ambassador Field is taking over his duty after years-long service in the British Foreign Office. During his career, he was mainly in charge of political affairs, whether it was bilateral relations with Brazil and Argentina or with the European Union on the Middle East peace process.

He is a good connoisseur of the situation in BiH and the region since he previously worked as head of the European Union Affairs Department at the British Embassy in Zagreb during the accession and negotiations period between Croatia and the EU, then as a political adviser to the European Union Mission in Skopje and as head of the political department in the European Union Delegation to BiH, stated the British Embassy in BiH.
