Zvizdić urges Plenković to stop interfering in internal matters of BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 19 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Zvizdić, called on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, to stop interfering in the internal matters of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Zvizdic emphasizes that in his latest activities, the Croatian Prime Minister in the institutions of the European Union, as well as during his bilateral meetings, once again attempted to establish Croatia’s patronizing position towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated the BiH Council of Ministers.

“Plenković, while abusing Croatia's membership in the European Union, acts as a prime minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina and not Croatia, which is not in line with good neighborly relations and represents an open and direct interference of Croatia in internal matters of BiH.

The Croatian Prime Minister in this way has repeatedly tried to institutionalize inaccurate, selective and confusing theories about the vulnerability of only one ethnic group in BiH. I am sure that Plenković is well aware of the fact that, in accordance with the provisions of the BiH Constitution, the Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats are equal and constitutive peoples throughout the territory of BiH, and that in any institution at the BiH level: the BiH Presidency, the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, the Council of Ministers of BiH, no decision can be made, due to numerous mechanisms of protection, that would be contrary to the democratic will of the elected or appointed representatives of any nation,” stressed Zvizdić.

Moreover, Zvizdić added, the level of tolerance particularly exercised by the Bosniak people is that there is almost parity in leadership positions at the state level.

As an example, Zvizdić states notes that the Croat people, who according to the last census comprise 15.43 percent of the total population in BiH, hold twice as more managerial positions - almost 30 percent, which totally destroys any claims and speculation of inequality.

“The existing constitutional-political system in BiH, in which the ethnic principle prevails the civic one, which is not in accordance with contemporary European and democratic standards, is very well known to all accredited representatives of foreign countries and European and international institutions,” emphasized the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH.

“Therefore, I see no need or purpose for the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, to take liberty and start informing heads of states and governments of the EU Member States with the situation in BiH, because these countries know very well the situation in our country through their embassies in BiH and through contact with BiH officials.

The EU member states are also well informed about the process of amending the Election Law of BiH because the EU representatives in BiH have participated in the negotiations between political parties on amendments to the Election Law and they are well aware that HDZ BiH has rejected all the potential solutions that were considered.

The most astonishing is the fact that Plenković is vocalizing the attitudes and position of only one nation and only one political party, which is in total contradiction with the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the Sejdić and Finci case, which stipulates that all citizens of BiH have the right to elect and to be elected,” underlined Zvizdić.

Therefore, he stressed, it is impossible to talk about equality and adversity, while failing to make sure that his approach is not selective, but that equality is implemented comprehensively across the board and for all the citizens in BiH and inequality permanently removed.

Similar one-sided and biased attitudes, said Zvizdić, Croatia also presented at a meeting of EU foreign ministers, held in Luxembourg on Monday, demanding that these attitudes be incorporated into the conclusions of the meeting.

This was not accepted by other EU member states, by which these countries showed their clear position and refused unprincipled interference in BiH internal matters.

“Taking into account all the arguments presented above, I urge Plenković to stop acting as a prime minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a spokesperson of only one political party and ethnic group, and to start respecting BiH as a sovereign state of equal peoples and citizens, and as a good and honest neighbor. I also urge him to start acting in accordance with the old saying: 'You have to respect in order to be respected',” concluded the BiH Council of Ministers Chairman, Denis Zvizdić.
