SARAJEVO, November 11 (FENA) - Several events were organized in Sarajevo, the city from where it all began, marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War or the Great War that ended on the Day of Armistice in 1918.

It was a war in which for the first time highly destructive weapons were used and which took the lives of 20 million people. The assassination of the Austro-Hungarian crown prince Franc Ferdinand and his wife by Gavrilo Princip on June 28, 1914, was an event that ignited the spark of war.

All religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina marked the centenary of the end of the First World War.

At 12:30 pm, the bells were heard from the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Sarajevo, while Gazi Husrev-bey's Library and Kuršumli Madrasah were illuminated with special lighting on Saturday.

Citizens of Sarajevo this year joined those in the United Kingdom, Germany and the rest of Europe in a special celebration this day, with the ringing of church bells and other content expressing support for peace and solidarity with the victims.

The Ashkenazi synagogue has been illuminated throughout the weekend, and the Orthodox churches on this special occasion held served prayers in memory of the dead with the message that war destruction should not be repeated.

International seminar "Peace Building, 1918-2018" with young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and France is being held in Sarajevo from November 7 to 12, marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

On Monday, November 12, the French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Guillaume Rousson, and Charge d'Affaires of the German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Sedat, will participate in the final part of the seminar together with other participants.

The project is organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Forum ZFD Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the Embassies of Germany and France in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and France marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The central event marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War was held on Sunday in front of the Triumphal Arch in Paris, where leaders of more than 60 countries of the world gathered, including the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bakir Izetbegović.

Izetbegović stressed that because of its painful historical experience, Bosnia and Herzegovina needs a unified Europe, a Europe of peace, prosperity, and cooperation and that it deserves its place in this family of freedom and democracy.
