SARAJEVO, November 12 (FENA) - "Recollections and Remembrance of the First World War" is the name of an exhibition that opened tonight at Gazi Husrev-bey Khanikah in Sarajevo, and the authors are students of the International French School in Sarajevo.

The exhibition was opened by Ambassador of France to BiH Guillaume Rousson who said that the exhibition is part of a series of events marking the beginning and the end of the First World War.

“We wanted to engage the students and get them interested in the topic of the First World War, for the historical aspect of it. The second part is a lesson that we can draw from the mistakes made by people and states, and what can we do to avoid this in the future,” said Ambassador Rousson.

In the course of the preparation of the exhibition, as the Ambassador added, the students visited several important institutions, the state archives, explored the historical events, photographed various cultural and historical sites, made comparisons with photographs taken during the First and Second World Wars.

“With the help of their professors, the students wrote a text in French that depicts their family memories and they also created a family tree, and thus, 14 panels were presented at the exhibition, and each student presented one of their ancestors who lived during the First World War and narrated their personal stories,” explained the Ambassador.

One of such photos or postcards was preserved in the family of Amra Bilić who presented her family tree and the documents she discovered about her grandfather, Lutfulah effendi Ruždić.

“My grandfather was an Imam in the army in the First World War. After his death, the postcards remained that he sent to his daughter. He did not complain much about the difficult situation, but he said that he always used to read the postcards he received from his family over and over again, and that they kept him warm in those cold nights on the front,” Amra Bilić said.

The exhibition, organized by the French Institute in BiH and the International French School in Sarajevo, is the result of students' work based on the photographs from the Sarajevo City Archives depicting the First World War and is open for visitors until November 15.
