Wigemark and EU member states ambassadors meet with Memić and Dragičević

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, December 11 (FENA) - Ambassadors of all EU Member States present in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Head of the EU Delegation and EUSR, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, met today in Sarajevo with Muriz Memić and Davor Dragičević.

Ambassadors reminded that the rule of law is a fundamental part of the EU integration process and is expected to figure prominently in the forthcoming Opinion by the European Commission on the membership application by BiH.

All civil society actors have the EU's full support in demanding accountability from the authorities in upholding the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In light of the marking of Human Rights Day on 10 December, EU Ambassadors discussed pressures against civic space and freedom of speech in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The need for all actors to act in a spirit of respect was underlined. The Ambassadors commended Mr. Memić and Mr. Dragičević's tireless efforts to peacefully seek out justice for the tragic deaths of their sons.

Like all citizens in BiH, Mr. Memić and Mr. Dragičević have the right to expect thorough and professional investigations into all serious crimes by the relevant law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

Any country aspiring to membership in the European Union must do no less, stated the EU Delegation to BiH.
