SARAJEVO, January 6 (FENA) - Chairman of the Steering Board of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, Nisvet Mujanović, has urged the authorities to react after an unknown individual left a bag containing pig remains and skins right near the Srebrenica-Potočari memorial center last night.
The Memorial Center announced that this has caused a lot of distress and have condemned such an appalling act.
"Bearing in mind that the Orthodox holidays are celebrated these days and that the practice of slaughtering pigs is part of this celebration, we must say that we did not expect any kind of provocation or bad intentions from our Serb neighbors. Guided by our painful experiences of the past, we call on the competent institutions to act preventively and do not allow for such actions to be done near the premises of the Memorial Center. We expect condemnation and investigation of this event, as well as adequate sanctions against the perpetrator, whoever it was.
This area is surrounded by tombstones, and our mothers lost their loved ones. It is a sacred place for us and we will not tolerate any disturbance and endangerment of this complex.
We call the local administration to order the communal inspection and other competent services to react to this act, as well as for any similar actions and thus show that they share the pain of the families, at least in the days of their holiest holidays. If no reaction occurs, we will understand it as an act of their collective consciousness," concluded the Board of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
