BIHAĆ, January 28 (FENA) - Children from migrant families who currently reside in reception camps in the Una-Sana Canton area have started school today.

At the moment, there are 105 children enrolled and they will attend classes in the four primary schools in Bihać and Cazin.

Teachers who have received additional education will be working with groups of about thirty pupils in Harmani 2, Prekounje and Brekovica schools.

“Children will be taught under the HART program, which actually means healing and education through art. The migrant children learn through creative work and play, and the program is also designed to work with children who have experienced stress. We will try to relax them and prepare them for regular classes," said Ervina Lipović-Hodžić, a teacher at the Brekovica elementary school.

Representatives of international organizations pointed out that this has been probably the most beautiful and the most positive day since they started working in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We all did a huge job together. First, we agreed and organized everything with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the schools management, parents and migrant families themselves. After that, we provided children with everything they needed for school, from clothing and footwear, to complete school supplies. That is why this is so important and emotional for us,” said the UNICEF Coordinator for Una-Sana Canton Nevenka Lukin.

The pupil and parents councils in all schools on the first school day presented welcoming presents to the children from migrant families.
