SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) - Responses to the additional 655 questions from the European Commission Questionnaire have been compiled and agreed within the bodies of the Coordination Mechanism, with the ongoing confirmation process of the agreed responses at all levels of government. What follows now is their translation and editing, confirmed today for FENA the Directorate for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina and added that before submitting the responses to the European Commission, the integral version needs to be confirmed by all the governments and the Council of Ministers of BiH.

The Directorate for European Integration estimates that the responses are compiled within some 2,600 pages and about 1,450 pages of supporting material in the form of laws, by-laws and other documents.

However, the question of the timeframe, that is, when the work would be completed and when the responses would be confirmed by all the governments and the Council of Ministers of BiH, cannot be answered by the Directorate, as it all depends on the procedures at all levels of government, but they say they expect the responses to the submitted to the European Commission very soon.

“It is a comprehensive process aimed at preparing the opinion on the membership application of BiH in the European Union, where the European Commission is to give a detailed analysis of the situation in the country and assess the readiness to move to the next phase of relations with the EU,” explained the Directorate officials.

After the opinion is finalized, the European Commission will forward it to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, which will consider it, and in an unanimous decision draft an appropriate conclusion that should be confirmed at the political level by the European Council.
