SARAJEVO, January 29 (FENA) - “The threat of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) to challenge the name of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s entity of Republika Srpska before the Constitutional Court of BiH is a serious mistake,” Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Petr Ivantsov told journalists today in Sarajevo after the extraordinary session of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) in BiH.

He said that “this has caused instability, reduced confidence and increased disagreements among peoples, and stopped the formation of government at all levels in BiH.”

“It is not in line with the Dayton Peace Agreement and that is why I called the PIC session,” said Ivantsov.

He also underlined that he did not sign the joint statement of the PIC for a number of reasons “because the communique does not address concrete problems.”

“It speaks in general terms and about the mistakes of all political actors in BiH. The result is that everyone is seen as guilty and maybe nobody is,” said Ivantsov.

He noted that he is interested in achieving stability in BiH, but that "the SDA initiative has interrupted the course of negotiations."

He called for solving of open issues through dialogue, which is the foundation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Asked by journalists why he did not ask for an extraordinary session of the PIC when the president of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, Milorad Dodik, announced the need for RS to secede from BiH and to be merged with Serbia, constituting a serious violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional order of BiH, Ivantsov said that “every ambassador within the PIC, could talk about different situations.”

“We can talk about Dodik’s statements, or the SDA resolution from 2015, which talks about the abolition of entity-level authorities, or the request for the establishment of a third entity, but I called for this session due to the current political moment and the need to form the government,” said Ivantsov explaining his reasons.

In a statement to the press, he added that he did not want to speak badly about SDA and that he respects all the political parties and leaders in BiH.
