BIHAĆ, February 13 (FENA) - Representatives of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the City of Bihać discussed today the ongoing situation with migrants and refugees, accommodation facilities for the migrant population and projects related to the safety of citizens financed by the European Union.

“We have secured EUR 9.2 million to assist mitigating the migrant crisis in BiH, and of course with our partners we control the spending of these funds.

We have come to Bihać to see what we can do when it comes to the implementation of projects that improve the safety of citizens and foreign nationals currently living here, such as the rehabilitation of the street lighting system. We also want to make the best use of the visit to get acquainted with all the challenges that the local community is facing nowadays,” said Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to BiH, Richard Máša.

Mayor of Bihać, Šuhret Fazlić praised some of the completed projects by the international organizations, but also asked for an even more serious engagement and help in solving the accumulated problems in the city and the canton.

“We have repeated on several occasions that it is necessary for the state to establish strategic management and control of the situation with migrants and refugees in the Una-Sana Canton region.

The number of migrants who are coming and staying in Bihać and the Canton must be limited urgently, and we need a more thorough control of the reception centers. We hope that representatives of the EU Delegation to BiH can also assist in this matter,” added Fazlić.

Representatives of the Bihać City Administration at today's meeting expressed concern and dissatisfaction with the treatment of the Croatian police in these types of situations with migrants, i.e., their actions of returning migrants and refugees to Bihać by disregarding and avoiding official border crossings.
