Security Minister Mektić questioned at BiH Prosecutor's Office

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 15 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Dragan Mektić was questioned today in the Prosecutor's Office of BiH after he gave statements that he has information that Croatia has been recruiting members of the Salafi movement to bring in weapons to masjids and mosques in BiH.

“Why did the Prosecution not respond in the cases that happened earlier? The goal of the Prosecutor’s Office here is not to determine what actually happened, but it is to protect the close relations between the individual prosecutors and the individuals singled out in this intelligence affair. If the Prosecution had any intention to do its job, it would have participated in shedding light on this matter. I stand behind everything that I said earlier,” said Mektić.

He stated, inter alia, that the role of the intelligence services is not only to gather information and data, but to stop and prevent any attempt of foreign intelligence services to penetrate BiH space and territory in the intelligence activities sense.

Speaking about the questioning in the BiH Prosecutor's Office, Mektić said that they talked about the general consul of Croatia in Tuzla, Ivan Bandić, also about the journalist Mato Đaković, who used a vehicle with diplomatic plates belonging to the Croatian consulate in Tuzla, N1 reports.

“I told them that I had information and that I saw certain photos in which, even months before this whole story, Mato Đaković was driving this vehicle. He says that he bought the car from Bandić, only yesterday he registered it to his own name when everything came out in the media. No one can use an official diplomatic vehicle except an authorized diplomat. And they gave Mato Đaković who is not even employed in the consulate  to use this diplomatic vehicle and to do whatever he wanted with it,” stressed,” Mektić.

Đaković in a statement yesterday for N1 denied his involvement in this entire case and announced lawsuits against the minister and the investigative journalism portal “Žurnal”.

“The security sector does not have confidence in this prosecutor's office and the chief prosecutor. Everyone in the HJPC must know this,” said the BiH Minister of Security.

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina opened a case in order to determine all the circumstances and allegations released in the media about intelligence agencies from Croatia allegedly recruiting members of the Salafi movement for weapons smuggling in BiH.

The Croatian Intelligence Agency has rejected all the claims.
