SARAJEVO, March 18 (FENA) - EUFOR Commander, Major General Martin Dorfer visited today the headquarters of the Foreigners Affairs Service and met with Director Slobodan Ujić, and Deputy Director Mirsad Buzar, with whom he discussed the ongoing situation in the area migration with a special emphasis on the problem of increased influx of migrants in BiH.
Director of the Foreigners Affairs Service Slobodan Ujić informed Major General Dorfer about the situation with substantial increase of migrants that enter the territory of BiH.
It was pointed out that the number of migrants drastically increased in the past year. In 2018, the Service processed some 25,000 migrants. In 2019, the trend of increase in the number of migrants has continued in relation to the same period last year.
Major General Dorfer stressed that EUFOR is closely monitoring developments in connection to the movement of migrants and recognizes the role of the Foreigners Affairs Service in securing a safe and stable environment in BiH.
He also expressed concern that, with the arrival of more favorable weather conditions, the number of migrants in BiH would increase even further.
The EUFOR Commander has indicated their willingness to support the Foreigners Affairs Service in accordance with the mandate of the peacekeeping forces in the conditions of increased influx of migrants in order to maintain a safe and stable environment in BiH.
The interlocutors agreed that the issue of migrants is not only a problem of BiH, but of all countries in the region, but also it is a problem of the countries of the European Union and only joint action of all countries on the Balkan route can lead to the desired results and an adequate response to the migrant crisis.
