Dodik: We will not give consent to the activation of MAP with NATO

FENA Muamer Selimbegovic

SARAJEVO, April 17 (FENA) - President of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) Milorad Dodik reiterated today that he does not accept any conditioning when it comes to the convocation of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that he categorically rejects the activation of the MAP (Membership Action Plan with NATO), or the adoption of the first Annual National Program (ANP).

He underlined that this is a far more wider and important issue than the MAP itself, or any other issue in BiH, claiming that “the issue of the MAP goes outside the context of the Council of Ministers,” and that it is "a constitutional problem".

“Today we talked about the distribution of the ministries as the next step in the implementation of the statement on forming the power at the state level,” Dodik said, adding that “Izetbegović had asked to activate the MAP in some suspicious manner by giving the Minister of Defense the authorization to give consent without the Council of Ministers and the Presidency of BiH".

“I warned them that this would be a dangerous 'path if someone decided to do so,” said Dodik, reiterating that the SNSD refused to give consent to the MAP adamantly.

He stressed that there will be no approval of the MAP activation, and that, “if someone unilaterally starts solving foreign policy priorities in BiH, without the consent and consensus, he risks a crisis in the country.”

Asked about the situation with migrants, which was one of the topics at the BiH Presidency session, specifically on whether the Armed Forces would participate in securing the state border, Dodik said that "the army would not participate in this. The Armed Forces cannot just come out to the border, and especially not to the border with Serbia."

He added that there is no comprehensive plan in this respect, and that “it is not possible for the police of one entity to go to the territory of another and that the BiH Border Police should strengthen its own capacities, work on the matters of civil protection service and other forms of engagement.”
