Two Srebrenica victims killed by Serb paramilitary ‘Scorpions’ identified today

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 26 (FENA) - Two Bosniak men from Srebrenica shot by the Serb paramilitary unit Scorpions in 1995 - murders that were videotaped by the notorious Serb fighters - have been identified after their remains were exhumed from a mass grave.

Two out of six Bosniak men from Srebrenica who were shot by members of the Scorpions paramilitary unit in 1995 have now been identified after their remains exhumed from a mass grave at Rogoj mountain pass in the Trnovo municipality in June last year, it was announced on Friday, BIRN reports.

“The data available to the Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina suggest that some of the remains found match the identities of two out of six Bosniak men who were shot by members of the Scorpions paramilitary unit in Godinjske Bare [a village in the Trnovo municipality] in 1995,” the Institute said in a statement.

It said that the grave in which their remains were found was discovered in a forested area of Rogoj, where natural four-meter-deep sinkholes were used to hide the victims.

“Some parts of the human skeletons were in plastic bags,” it added.

Emza Fazlić of the Missing Persons Institute said that the victims’ families are expected to confirm their identities after DNA analysis.

After the shooting the victims were identified as Safet Fejzić, Azmir Alispahić, Sidik Salkić, Smail Ibrahimović, Dino Salihović and Juso Delić.

The Scorpions recorded the killings on video and the tape was shown at the Hague Tribunal during the trial of former Serbian President Slobodan Milošević, and during the trial of former Serbian State Security chiefs Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović.

The recording shows several Scorpions fighters, some wearing red berets, taking the six Bosniak civilians from a truck to a forest near Trnovo, insulting them along the way.

They shoot four of them in the back, then in the head at close range.

The two remaining prisoners are forced to carry the bodies away, before the Scorpions fighters kill them too in a nearby, half-destroyed house.

The perpetrators were arrested in Serbia and Croatia and convicted.

The Scorpions’ commander, Slobodan Medić, alias Boca, was sentenced to 20 years, while his brother Branislav Medić got 15 years.

Petar Petrašević, who admitted guilt, was sentenced to 13 years in prison, while Milorad Momić and Slobodan Davidović were sentenced to 15 years each.

In 2014, Slobodan Medić was killed in a car accident in Serbia with his entire family during a weekend’s leave awarded to him by Serbian prison officials while serving his sentence.
