SARAJEVO, May 14 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina has already been punished for immature and negative politics, and statement by the Chair of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik was heard not only on a local, but on the international level, Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Bruce Berton told FENA.
Commenting on Dodik's call to members of the 3rd Infantry Regiment of Armed Forces of BiH to wear uniforms of former army of Republika Srpska, he said such statements definitely impair the reputation of BiH in Europe and among foreign investors.
"It also contributes to tensions in process of formation of government, which according to assessments will result in reduction in growth of gross domestic product (GDP) by half percent," underlined Berton.
As many other representatives of the international community in BiH Ambassador Berton also reminded that the Law on Service in Armed Forces of BiH clearly stipulates the role and position of infantry regiments of Armed Forces of BiH.
Therefore, Berton emphasized it is clear that implementation of what Dodik is saying would be a direct violation of this law.
He reminded that formation of Armed Forces of BiH is one of the greatest successes and it helped secure peace in BiH, and in accordance with Annex 1B of the Dayton Agreement OSCE was given a mandate to negotiate measures to improve trust and reduce risk of conflicts.
"Such step was taken based on consensus of political representatives of all three constituent peoples, state and entity parliaments and government, including Republika Srpska," emphasized Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH.
He added that these kind of statements are inappropriate and an attempt to distract from the answers to real needs of the citizens.
"Instead of rhetoric of divisions which leads to crisis, citizens of BiH need political leaders who will work for a better future, through dialogue, mutual understanding and compromise," Berton told FENA.
He announced that the OSCE Mission to BiH will continue helping authorities in BiH to make progress and he welcomed every form of progress that could help BiH in improving its military and security structures.
