SDP BiH - Trading with BiH’s membership in NATO is out of the question

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, May 17 (FENA) - The Social Democratic Party (SDP) of BiH urges all political parties to voice their objections in an equal manner to all the attempts to stop the NATO path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The SDP BiH today reacted to the information that an initiative could follow that instead of the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) Bosnia and Herzegovina, modeled on Serbia’s approach, regulates the issue of cooperation with NATO solely within the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), which the party strongly rejects and condemns.

“We remind you that any withdrawal from the activation of the MAP, before the government is formed, would be a huge disservice to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at the same time a great award to Milorad Dodik and the SNSD.

We doubt that any of the political parties, who consider themselves patriotic, would agree to this, but we must warn of the catastrophic consequences, of even thinking in this direction.

Attempts to deceive the public that the MAP is the same as the IPAP leads Bosnia and Herzegovina in the direction of becoming a colony of the neighboring Serbia, which will then get to decide what are the foreign policy priorities of our country, although there is a clear and unified determination of the Presidency of BiH that says that BiH’s priorities are European Union, NATO and regional cooperation,” stressed the SDP.

As an opposition party, the SDP BiH will strongly advocate for NATO and EU integration and the continuation of the partnership with the United States and the countries of the European Union in order to achieve the foreign policy priorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We will insist on the consistent application of the adopted laws, in this case the Law on Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which obliges the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Presidency of BiH, and all defense entities to carry out all necessary activities within their own constitutional and legal competences for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession into NATO.

“Nothing else for the SDP BiH is and would be acceptable, and we invite all the political parties that form the government to do so as soon as possible, but by no means thy must not trade with the country’s  future NATO membership,” stated the SDP BiH.
