BIHAĆ, May 22 (FENA) - Project documentation for landfills in Bihać and Bosanska Krupa, within project "Technical Assistance for Improvement of Integrated Solid Waste Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina", was presented at yesterday's meeting of representatives of the World Bank, cities of Bihać and Cazin, municipalities of Bosanska Krupa and Bužim and Ministry of Engineering, Physical Planning and Environmental Protection of Una-Sana Canton.
Project is implemented by the World Bank with support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
Documentation includes repair and adaptation of non-sanitary landfills and turning them into locations that meet sanitary principles of waste disposal.
Competent cantonal ministry supports activities of the World Bank, because Una-Sana Canton currently does not have a sanitary landfill at the moment.
"Our approach was regional principle, that is, a regional landfill for eight cities and municipalities of USC, however that has not been implemented and cannot be discussed at the moment. That is why we support this project, because it would at least regulate some existing non-sanitary landfills," emphasized Minister of Engineering, Physical Planning and Environmental Protection of USC Adnan Alagić.
It was emphasized that adaptation of landfills in Bihać and Bosanska Krupa would require approximately 10 million KM. Financing plan has not been presented yet, but it is quite clear that local communities would not be able to cover these costs on their own.
