SARAJEVO, May 26 (FENA) – Most important European museum awards were presented at the National Theater in Sarajevo on Saturday.
Forty museums were nominated this year and five awards and several special recognitions were presented.
Main awards in "European Museum of the Year" award went to Holland and Switzerland.
European Museum of the Year award went to Rijksmuseum Boerhaave from Holland and Council of Europe Museum Award, which went to Wartime Childhood Museum in 2018, went to Communication Museum from Bern this year.
Solemn ceremony was opened by Jette Sandahl, president of the European Museum Forum, Jasminko Halilović, founder of Wartime Childhood Museum, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Special Representative of the EU to BiH and Lejla Mujkić, head of cabinet of Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton.
"Bosnia not only belongs to Europe, it needs Europe. Still, I am certain that Europe needs Bosnia. We are stronger together. We are richer together, and that is why we brought this conference to Sarajevo and that is the message I want you to take with you," said Halilović.
Special Representative of the EU Lars-Gunnar Wigemark emphasized that wealth of different cultures is one of the main values of the European Union and that museums are guardians of cultural heritage and diversity.
Apart from participants of the conference, the solemn ceremony was attended by ambassadors and representatives of sixteen embassies, representatives of local authorities, partners and friends of Wartime Childhood Museum.
