Sixteen Croat victims of war, killed in Bikoši near Travnik, buried on Saturday

FENA

TRAVNIK, June 9 (FENA) - Sixteen victims of the shooting, which took place in 1993 in the village of Bikoši, in the municipality of Travnik, were buried yesterday at the Prahulje cemetery. The funeral service and a mass were led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Cardinal Vinko Puljić.

The remains of victims of Croat nationality were exhumed in 1996 and 2001 from two mass graves, and their identity was determined on the basis of DNA analysis, and confirmed by members of their families.

Among the victims is the husband of Ljuba Volić, who, ahead of the burial, told reporters that every anniversary takes the family to the past and reminds them of the events when they lost their loved ones.

"It is the hardest day for us, and it takes us back to the past when we were captured and taken to a camp in Mehurić, while our loved ones were singled out to be shot dead... It is a shame that so little is known about the events that took place in the village of Bikoši in 1993, but at least we are alive today to bury our loved ones," she said.

The families of the victims once again warned that not all the bodies of the victims have been found and that the remains of the identified persons were incomplete.

"I ask everyone who has conscience to tell us where the remains of these people are. Someone knows and we ask them to tell us where they are, so we can reassemble the victims' remains," said Nenad Pušelja, who lost his brother in the village of Bikoši.

The victims' burial was preceded by a commemoration in Travnik, where it was said, among other things, that this was one of the biggest crimes against Croats in BiH, where 36 people were shot dead.

President of the Boards for the burial of the victims of Bikoši, Nikola Lovrinović, said at the commemoration that up to date,  no members of the Army of the RBiH were prosecuted for this crime.
