FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 19 (FENA) - The chief of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Justice Serge Brammertz and Prosecutor General of Bosnia and Herzegovina Gordana Tadić met today in Sarajevo and discussed preparations for the upcoming report by Brammertz which he will present at the UN Security Council.

They have also talked about other issues of common interest.

The need for an urgent improvement of cooperation in the investigation and processing of war crimes was discussed, as well as steps taken with regard to the continuation of the agreements reached at the recently held regional conference of war crimes prosecutors in Belgrade.

It was concluded that a significant challenge represent fugitives who have been indicted by the Court of BiH, but who live freely in neighboring countries.

Brammertz and Tadić also discussed the progress achieved by the BiH Prosecutor's Office, where they recognized the positive results recently achieved by that institution, in particular in raising complex indictments involving serious and higher level indictees.

It was agreed to continue improving the work of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, and Tadić requested assistance from the Brammertz's Office in the segment of resolving identified problems, further capacity building and continuing support in improving overall work.

Brammertz stressed serious concern over the alarming increase in the denial of war crimes and the glorification of war criminals in BiH and throughout the region.

Finally, the main prosecutors discussed joint cooperation in the search for missing persons, along with other key partners such as the State Investigation and Protection Agency - SIPA, the Missing Persons Institute and the International Committee of the Red Cross, which recently led to the discovery of a mass grave, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH said.
