SARAJEVO, July 9 (FENA) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the SEECP Summit today in Jahorina that the success of the Southeast European Cooperation Process is important for peace, stability and prosperity of the entire continent.
He emphasized that his country would continue to support the integration of Balkan countries into Euro-Atlantic institutions, and that the EU decisions on the membership negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia will reflect on the future of the entire region.
“The implementation of these processes outside the framework of previous promises would harm the peace and stability of the region, but also confidence in the European Union,” emphasized Erdogan.
He added that it has recently been seen that the EU enlargement policy has been blocked by certain short-sighted populist circles.
“Negative paths of division and discrimination that are spreading in Europe lately do not pose only a danger to the peace within the continent alone, but also to the future and the potential for this region to become hope for many in the period to come,” said Erdogan.
He underlined that he believes that European leaders will act as visionaries and will support the idea of Balkan integration into the European Union.
