SARAJEVO, July 10 (FENA) - A project entitled "Local Integrated Development", implemented in 20 municipalities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina was finalized with an event titled "We Can Do Better", which dealt with opportunities for development in local communities, and which has resulted in the employment of 679 people.

The project was funded by the European Union with six million euros and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the past three years.

Within this project, assistance was provided to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, but also to municipalities in terms of budget planning, which resulted in about 10 million KM being generated afterwards for further development of these communities.

One of those whom this project helped to develop its own business was Emir Bulić from Tuzla who launched his company ‘Bueno’ for the production of gluten-free candy and whole-wheat snacks.

As part of the project, entrepreneurs have undergone training that prepared them for the obstacles that they may encounter during the start-up of their business, and he also received financial support, after which he purchased the necessary equipment.

Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH Khaldoun Sinno explained that this project is part of a larger program aimed at mitigating the consequences of the catastrophic floods that hit BiH in 2014.

“We helped the municipalities, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the overall development. In particular, companies have been enabled to purchase equipment, new jobs have been created, and export of products and product placement within the country has been enabled,” added Sinno.

Resident Representative of UNDP in BiH Steliana Nedera, speaking about the results, stressed that 40 infrastructure projects, that have been awaiting implementation, have been supported by rationalizing the costs within the local self-government units.

This project has supported the lives of 160,000 citizens across the country with hope that such a joint approach will enable better development for local communities.
