SREBRENICA, July 11 (FENA) - The official marking of the 24th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the ‘UN Safe Zone’ of Srebrenica commenced this morning at the Memorial Center in Potočari, where a collective funeral and a burial will take place of the mortal remains of 33 victims of genocide.
The commemoration started at 11.00 hrs., with the playing of the anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by addresses by the dignitaries and officials, honoring and laying of flowers at the graves of the victims of genocide at the Memorial Stone.
The religious program will start at 12.00 hrs., with the prayers from the Qur'an, and it is also planned the reading of a passage from the novel "Death and the Dervish", by Meša Selimović, concluding with the performance of the Srebrenica Inferno.
After that, there will be a preparation for the noon prayer, followed by the funeral prayer which will be led by the Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein effendi Kavazović.
After the commemoration, posthumous remains of 33 genocide victims will be buried.
Youngest victim to be buried in Potočari this year is Osman Cvrk, born in 1979, who was only 16 when he was killed, whereas the oldest is Šaha Cvrk, who was 82 at the time and is the only woman to be buried in Potočari this year.
There are still 140 identified victims at the Identification Center Podrinje in Tuzla, but families decided not to bury their loved ones yet due to incomplete posthumous remains.
Posthumous remains of 6.610 genocide victims have been buried at the Srebrenica - Potočari Memorial Center so far, and over 1000 residents of Srebrenica who went missing still have not been found.
