This race will be held at Wilson's promenade in Sarajevo on Sunday, July 14, which is a symbolic way for the representatives of Turkish institutions in BiH to show their support for the civilians who stood up in the defense of democracy on that July 15.

The organizers of the event provided all the necessary props for the race that is some 3.5 kilometers long, from running shirts to refreshments after the race, and the best ones will be awarded with 300, 200 and 100 KM cash prizes.

The Sarajevo City Hall on that day will be illuminated in the colors of the Turkish flag.

Ambassador of Turkey to BiH Haldun Koç spoke today about the importance of this date for the Turkish nation, reminding that at that time, the terrorist organization FETO, led by Fethullah Gülen, attacked the legitimately elected government and the president of the state.

It was an attack, he pointed out, to the constitutional order of Turkey. At the same time, Koç noted that unarmed civilians stood against the tanks on the streets of Istanbul.

In addition, there as an attempted attack on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Private and state-owned television broadcasters were attacked being forced to broadcast terrorist messages and shutting them down later on. The country's defense was a milestone in the history of Turkish democracy.

He underlined that the response of the BiH state in support of the fight for democracy was one of the first to come to Turkey, and that is why he thanked BiH expressing hope that the cooperation between the two countries would continue in an effort to halt the activities of FETO organization.

Asked by journalists whether Turkey would insist on the extradition of persons they claims to be members of that organization and whether, if BiH rejects, bilateral relations between the two countries could be threatened, Ambassador Koç stressed that these deep and friendly relations could not be jeopardized by anything.

“The legal process related to this case is ongoing and it is up to the judicial institutions to adjudicate on the matter. Turkey has provided the evidence showing that they are members of FETO,” explained the ambassador.

The entire process, Koç concluded, is taking place in accordance with international law, and the process, which he does not know how long it would take, will be handled within the legal framework.
