SARAJEVO, July 19 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, in a written statement to the media, said that after the rotation of the Presidency chairman tomorrow, he will seriously consider the launch of a new set of conclusions that will seek to resolve the outstanding issue establishing the sea border with the Republic of Croatia, in the way that Article III5/a of the Constitution of BiH should be used, which clearly states that BiH will assume all the competences regarding the protection of state sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and international legal entity.
“In this regard, the BiH Constitution has clearly stated that the entities do not have any jurisdiction over the issues of sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and international legal entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” according to Komšić.
He points out that the subject of international law is Bosnia and Herzegovina, because as a country it has its flag at the United Nations headquarters, and only it can sign international agreements whereby the legal basis for resolving the open sea border issue with neighboring Croatia is established, and thereafter has a right to free or unobstructed access to the open sea, on a clearly defined sea corridor.
“Although I consider that the RS National Assembly’s yesterday session was skillfully used and burdened with numerous manipulations and inactions, such as the planned launch of a dispute over the Pelješac Bridge, and by reading the implicit conclusions of the BiH Presidency it is obvious that this country wants to exercise its rights in terms of protection their own sovereignty and territorial integrity, in this case, with regard to the undefined border at sea.
Of course, I am resolved to initiate talks with the authorities of the Republic of Croatia,” says Komšić's written statement from his office.
