Genocide Victims Association: Not a single indictment for the siege of Sarajevo

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 28 (FENA) - Twenty-four years have passed since the Markale market massacre in Sarajevo, when 43 citizens were killed and 84 were severely injured.

“We also mark 24 years since the prosecutor's offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina have failed to file a single indictment for the siege of Sarajevo. While the prosecutor offices in BiH remove in convoys the accused Bosniaks from the so-called UN protected areas: Sarajevo, Bihać, Goražde, Srebrenica ... the City of Sarajevo city and the BiH public is silently observing the biggest embarrassment since the Dayton Peace Accords - for 24 years no one has been indicted for the world's longest siege, in which more than ten thousand civilians and 1,600 children were killed.

This shame is on all of us and is just one of the reasons why we do not want to support the so-called Revised National Strategy for the work on war crimes cases, which represents a continuity of direct interference and actions by Serbia and Croatia, stated the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide.

They urge the BiH judiciary to "urgently initiate proceedings and form a team of international prosecutors to prosecute those responsible for the siege of Sarajevo instead of forming a team that, even after The Hague Tribunal’s refusal to take part in this, has been formed in BiH for the alleged crimes in Dobrovoljačka Street for the purpose of indicting the leadership of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina".
