The 26th anniversary of massacre of Croats in Grabovica marked today

FENA

MOSTAR, September 9 (FENA) - The 26th anniversary of the killing of Croatian civilians killed on the night of September 9th, 1993 by members of the RBiH Army in the village of Grabovica between Mostar and Jablanica, was marked today by laying wreaths followed by a Holy Mass.

Josip Drežnjak, president of the Grabovica 93 Association of Croatian victims, said that they gathered today to honor the victims and that today after 26 years, there is only silence.

“I have nothing new to say today, but I would ask the institutions, if they cannot find bodies, to find at least one bone until the next anniversary,” said Drežnjak.

He also appealed to the Prosecutor's Office of BiH to send feedback on the Grabovica crime evidence presented to the Prosecutor's Office two years ago.

“We submitted two directives and four videos to the BiH Prosecutor's Office in 2017, but we have not received any feedback yet,” Drežnak said in a statement to media.

Among 33 civilians killed in Grabovica in 1993 was four-year-old Mladenka Zadro, while the oldest victim, Marko Marić, was 87 years old. The families are still searching for 17 victims, uncertain if they were buried or thrown in the nearby Neretva river.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia acquitted Sefer Halilović, Deputy commander of the Supreme Command Staff of the Army of BiH, who was convicted by the indictment of a military action in which the war crime was committed.

Former members of the RBiH Army were held responsible before the domestic courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina for individual killings, but none for war crimes against civilians and (or) under command responsibility. To date, five members of the RBiH Army have been adjudicated.

President of the Federation of BiH Marinko Čavara attended the anniversary of the crime in Grabovica, and said that it is always difficult to be in places like Grabovica.

“Many crimes have not held responsible yet, although no justice and trial could restore lives of those who lost their loved ones, but that would be minimal satisfaction for families of the victims,” said Čavara.

Representatives of the Center for Nonviolent Action, consisted of war veterans from all three armies, also paid tribute to the victims in Grabovica.
