SARAJEVO, September 24 (FENA) – Minister of Environment and Tourism of FBiH Edita Djapo spoke with a World Bank delegation led by Senior Private Sector Development Specialist in Tourism Hannah Messerli.
Djapo informed World Bank representatives of the current situation in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, noting the progress made in tourism industry.
“Tourism is undoubtedly the fastest growing branch of economy in the region as well as in the world. This is best reflected in number of overnight stays with an increase of 100 percent compared to previous few years. Hoteliers and caterers also follow the highest world quality standards, and we can be really proud of having hotels like those in the United States, Germany, Japan. What is missing is the infrastructure that directly affects other tourist facilities,” said Djapo.
Representatives of the World Bank were briefed on the ongoing activities of the FBiH Ministry of the Environment and Tourism, which submitted draft laws on tourism, on sojourn tax and on hospitality industry to the parliamentary procedure.
Ministry has initiated activities to develop a Tourism Development Strategy in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and consultations with the cantons are underway, stated the FBiH Government's Public Relations Office.
