SARAJEVO, September 26 (FENA) – The Sarajevo Halal Fair 2019, which will feature 108 exhibitors from 36 countries, opened today at Skenderija Center in Sarajevo.

During the fair, visitors will be able to learn about global trends in halal industry, listen some of the world's most famous halal experts and Islamic finance experts, regional halal producers and providers from BiH, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Northern Macedonia and Albania as well as to meet with customers and distributors from the European Union, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, China, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Morocco, Oman and Tunisia.

Amer Bukvić, BBI Bank CEO, who is one of the organizers of the fair, said at the opening ceremony that, thanks to its geographical location, Bosnia and Herzegovina has outstanding potential as a meeting place for East and West.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina could become a platform for supplying several European markets with halal products and if we could establish that platform it would be a great success for us,” said Bukvić

BiH Presidency Member Šefik Džaferović said that by organizing the Halal Fair, which as such deserves the full support of the state, Sarajevo is becoming a regional hub for halal industry, and Bosnia and Herzegovina has an exceptional development opportunity.

“BiH has great advantages in the context of halal market that it should be used. Primarily, these are advantages that include cultural and traditional ties of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Islamic world on the one hand, and the immediate vicinity of the European Union on the other,” Džaferović emphasized.

Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH, Husein ef. Kavazović, emphasized that challenges of nutrition today are numerous and that it is very difficult to know what is healthy and to be careful what to eat.

“That is why the Islamic Community also had to follow the trend and form a specialized halal control and certification agency,” Kavazović said.

Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Edin Forto stressed that more than 80 BiH companies are currently producing and exporting halal food, and that Sarajevo wants to be halal food center in Europe.

The fair, organized by BBI Bank in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB) and IsDB Group Business Forum THIQAH, will last three days.

Ticket price for visitors is two KM, and money from tickets will be paid to SOS Children's Villages in BiH.
