'Media and Defense' regional conference ends today in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, October 16 (FENA) – Two-day regional conference ‘Media and Defense’ ended today in Sarajevo with adopting recommendations advocating the intensification and enhancement of defense and media cooperation, as well as regional cooperation, with implementation of participating countries' experiences and focus on Euro-Atlantic integration.

The participants of the Conference, organized by the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Defense of BiH in cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in BiH and NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, emphasized the importance of the credibility and timeliness of information from the defense sector, as well as the way they are presented to the public.

The focus of the second day of the Conference was on issues related to achieving proper communication between journalists and public relations services in the defense institutions, preferring a proactive approach.

The Conference emphasized the determination to respond promptly to media requests, where possible, with due regard for certain procedures and limitations that are involved when it comes to reporting on sensitive topics and issues related to defense and security.

NATO HQ Commander in Sarajevo Brigadier General Marti J. Bissell, Security Advisor at the Norwegian Embassy in BiH Geir Myrseth and Hungarian Ambassador to BiH Krisztián Pósa, as well as BiH Defense Minister Marina Pendeš addressed the participants at the opening of the ‘Media and Defense’ conference.  

Representatives of the BiH Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces, the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, EUFOR and the Office of Defense Cooperation of the US Embassy in BiH (ODC) attended the Conference.

Representatives of public relations offices of the Ministries of Defense of Norway, Montenegro, Croatia, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, NATO representatives from Brussels, and Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in the Conference.
