Dodik: SNSD is losing interest in participating in the state level government

FENA Press release

SRBAC, October 28 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and President of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), Milorad Dodik, reiterated today that the entity of RS is against BiH's membership in NATO and that the SNSD will publicly say that it does not want to be part of the government “if the conditioning continues.”

He claims that he will not renounce his principles even at the cost that the government does not get constituted.

Dodik told reporters that he would discuss these issues with the BiH Presidency members and Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Johannes Hahn and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security and European Commission Vice-President Federica Mogherini.

“They are probably interested in the government forming. This story of government formation in BiH has already become a disgusting topic. Serious damage has been done to the whole society. The RS also has suffered serious damage from failure to form the government, but no one has to count on us being so attracted to take over the government that we would undermine our basic principles. The RS is against NATO path and it will never get there. If they base their policies on anything else, it means status quo and I can't do anything about it,” Dodik said.

He believes that the conditionality in the process of government formation at the BiH level should be rejected, because if it takes any more time, the SNSD will not want to be part of that government.

He claims that the National Annual Program (ANP) with NATO “cannot be even named like that, because there are at least three nations living in BiH, and we will not accept the activation of the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).”

Some form of cooperation with NATO is not a problem, he says.

“We already have certain forms of cooperation with NATO, so does Serbia, and even Russia, and in that form cooperation is not a problem for us. But to do anything that looks like the ANP is unacceptable to us and we will not do it.

If they think they need to persist on this request, then let them choose other partners. Some in the RS now have the courage to do so,” Dodik added, reiterating that the SNSD will not accept this and that they remain open for the talks if the other side wants to implement the election results, but that the SNSD personnel is losing interest in participating in government institutions at the BiH level as time goes by.

“This ambition of our personnel is declining in the conditions when appointments within the old structures have already been made in all positions at the state level. Participation only at the level of the Council of Ministers would be more just for display and it would mean that we have accountability, but not an opportunity for reform,” said the SNSD leader.
