BiH Ombudsman Institution advocates for the ban on working Sundays

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 1 (FENA) - The Human Rights Ombudsman Institution of Bosnia and Herzegovina supports trade unions’ initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina to ban work on Sundays to businesses who work is not mandatory and necessary, primarily, this relates to working hours of shopping malls, the institution said.

The Ombudspersons believe that restricting work on Sundays would be a step towards improving workers' rights, creating better working conditions and a fuller realization of the right to rest and family life.

The Ombudsman Institution also points out that this practice is the rule, not the exception, in developed European countries.

The Ombudsman Institution does not doubt the need for labor law reform, which should follow the demands of a market economy, but emphasize the need to reinforce the guarantees to workers that they will not be impeded in the enjoyment of their basic employment rights.
