Čović: BiH Council of Ministers to be formed until end of the year

FENA

MOSTAR, November 26 (FENA) - President of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) and HNS BiH Dragan Čović said that all procedures for forming a new Council of Ministers of BiH will be completed in fifteen days and that the process of appointment of ministers and their deputies should be completed until the end of the year.

Following a session of the Presidency of the Croat National Assembly (HNS) BiH on Monday in Mostar, Čović said he hopes that Zoran Tegeltija would be appointed as the nominee for the BiH Council of Ministers’ chairman today, and that the process of agreeing upon the ministers and their deputies would follow.

He stated that the HDZ BiH has its own proposals and names in the Council of Ministers for three ministers (Finance, Civil Affairs and Justice) and three Deputy Ministers (Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Defense).

“On this side, HDZ BiH will adhere to its principle, that is, experienced and young people, but also a sufficient number regarding the representation of both sexes,” said Čović.

He stressed that this would initiate a dynamic not only towards the Euro-Atlantic path, but also towards internal reforms.

“With the formation of the Council of Ministers, and it is evident that it will be formed, we will be closer to the candidate status and, during the presidency of the Republic of Croatia of the European Union, try to start candidate talks together with North Macedonia and Albania,” said Čović optimistically.

When it comes to the formation of the FBiH government, Čović said that the reform of the Federation of BiH, especially election legislation, is being discussed as well.

“We are looking for solutions on the BiH Presidency, the House of Peoples of FBiH and the City of Mostar at the same time,” Čović explained, noting that it is very important for the Croats to have an Election Law in 2022 and that no one elects legal representatives that are precisely defined under the Constitution of Annex 4 of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

“We have opened the process of reorganizing the Government of the FBiH together with the SDA and I hope that we will be able to agree in a month or so,” Čović said, adding that their desire before the establishment of the FBiH Government is to make changes in order for the Government “to replace some of the unconstitutional ministries and to form ministries that are much more needed at this point” such as the Ministry of Family, Youth, or Demography.
