SARAJEVO, November 26 (FENA) - Amila Alikadić, 16-year-old youth activist from Kalesija in BiH, spoke on behalf of BiH children at the UN General Assembly last week in New York on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the right on education and the need to modernize the education system and problem of violence against and among children.

She said in a press statement today in Sarajevo that "it does not take a lot of money to change the situation for young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, perhaps we should listen and pay attention more to young people."

“To be more involved in the decision-making process that affects them. More attention should be paid to us. Young people are between 15 and 30 years old. There are some young people who can make decisions, along with elderly,” she said.

Socially active high school student Amila Alikadić wants to contribute to the improvement of the situation in BiH. Because of this, she says, she has become isignatories of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

nvolved in many movements and organizations. If she left Bosnia and Herzegovina it would be because of better study conditions.

“I think I would then return to BiH to prove that a young person can succeed here if they have the support,” she emphasized.

Advocacy and Partnership Officer for World Vision BiH (WVBiH) Dragana Bulić accompanied Amila Alikadić in New York. She also emphasized the opportunity that was given to Amila to address, along with young people from all over the world, the highest delegations and signatories of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“The young people spoke in a natural, straightforward way on the issues that bother them, what opportunities they see, what they expect and what they do to initiate problem solving in their communities,” she said.

WVBiH Program Director Larisa Klepac highlighted the long-standing mission of World Vision in BiH and stated that many young people and children have made successful careers because of it.

“World Vision in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been working with local communities and families in these communities for 25 years to create a safer environment. World Vision works with children and young people, gives them opportunity, enhances their knowledge and skills to reach their full potential,” she said.

Amila Alikadić has launched and implemented numerous activities with her friends aimed at educating children and young people in the prevention of violence. Among other things, she is a member of the 'Worthy Attention' Youth Movement, which, with the support of World Vision, is committed to stopping all forms of violence against children, especially child neglect.
