Komšić: Implement judgments of the European Court of Human Rights

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO / WASHINGTON, November 27 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić is on his official visit to the U.S. where he met with John Erath, Senior Deputy Director for European Affairs on the U.S. National Security Council, Philip Reeker, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, with Maureen Cormack, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, and Matthew Palmer, US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans.

Representatives of the National Security Council and the State Department welcomed the agreement reached by BiH Presidency members to form a government in BiH and adopt Reform Program, which they hope will soon be sent to NATO headquarters in Brussels. Among other things, they discussed further activities of BiH on NATO's path, relations with the European Union, implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as the migrant crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the talks, United States of America gave their full support to BiH’s path to NATO, that is, support for BiH's full membership in both NATO and the European Union.

Chairman Komšić assessed the agreement on the formation of government and submission of the Reform Program to NATO Headquarters as an extremely positive step for our country, and that the EU integration of BiH should continue regardless of the current EU attitude towards the Western Balkans.

On the topic of the migrant crisis in BiH, Chairman Komšić pointed out that, unfortunately, there are double standards in the European Union, and that one of the European Union countries is constantly violating basic human rights through harsh treatment of migrants.

During his meeting with senior officials, Chairman Komšić emphasized that the return of persons from foreign battlefields to our country is kept under strict control, and that BiH security agencies, in cooperation with partner security agencies from other countries, control the situation. He also pointed out that there were no changes in the risk of terrorist threats, and that the BiH judiciary was doing its job well on this issue, the BiH Presidency announced.
