Komšić: BiH must move towards NATO, it is the smartest way

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, December 4 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić visited the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) in Ljubljana during his official visit to the Presidency of the Republic of Slovenia.

Chairman Komšić spoke on the topic "How to make Bosnia and Herzegovina better, more successful and attractive to live?"

In his address, Chairman Komšić paid special attention to the current NATO integration process of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina must move towards NATO, because it belongs to it as a state, and it is also the smartest way.

Komšić said that citizens are leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina primarily because of the uncertainty that prevails, and that political leaders must resolve this uncertainty.

Speaking about NATO integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he also recalled the former position of the Russian Federation on this issue, stating that the Russian Federation, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, had stated that it would respect Bosnia and Herzegovina's path to NATO if it was BiH choice.

Chairman Komšić also spoke about relations with the Republic of Slovenia, emphasizing that the Republic of Slovenia is an ally of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and if necessary, is ready to be an advocate in positive processes.

He also referred to the current attitude of the European Union towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying that European norms, citizens' equality, human rights and what the European Union promotes must be accepted. He stated that the European Union should help Bosnia and Herzegovina to adopt the standards existing in the EU, and that BiH insists on these principles.

Talking about regional relations, Chairman Komšić emphasized that there is an interlocutor in Slovenia, that unfortunately there is no real interlocutor in Croatia, while with Serbia there are only problems at the level of NATO perception.

Speaking about the current migrant crisis, he stressed that the European Union must have a unique strategy for the migrant crisis because all migrants in BiH come from EU countries, and that they are all people who should be treated as such, the BiH Presidency stated.
