Ambassador Sattler to attend start of construction work on Zenica Tunnel

SARAJEVO, December 8 (FENA) - Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Johann Sattler, will attend the official start of construction work on the Zenica Tunnel as part of the construction of a motorway section on the Corridor 5C, at the tunnel site located at the Ponirak-Vraca subsection.

European Union will co-finance the construction of two sub-units on the Corridor 5C (Ponirak-Vraca / Zenica Tunnel and Zenica Tunnel / Donja Gračanica) with EUR 31 million grant, a loan from the EIB, EBRD and funds provided by Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The construction of these subsections will enable better access to smaller cities, improve BiH tourist routes and trade to flow between the countries of the region, which will positively affect the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project is an important step towards integrating the Western Balkans region within the Connectivity Agenda, launched by the European Union in 2015 and in line with the European Commission Strategy for the Western Balkans, the EU Communications Office in BiH announced.
