HNC MoI unblocks Mostar landfill at Uborak, protesters are not giving up

FENA

MOSTAR, December 9 (FENA) - Members of Ministry of Interior of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC MoI) unblocked the Uborak landfill near Mostar on Monday morning, making a cordon between trucks and protesters who have blocked waste disposal for several days because, as they say, existing landfill does not have any necessary permits.

A dozen police-assisted garbage trucks have gone to the landfill and unloaded the waste, however, protesters say they will not give up their intention, which is to move the landfill to another location.

Omer Hujdur, a representative of the civic initiative "Jer nas se tiče" (Because it concerns us), called upon the Cantonal Minister of Interior Sladjan Bevanda, saying he "illegally hired police forces and let them confront the people."

“These are not criminals. These are law-abiding citizens. They came here to protect the law because the landfill is illegal and endangers their lives and lives of their families,” Hujdur told FENA.

The ambulance intervened due to the dispute between the police and protesters called by the protesters themselves.

Hujdur said that the next step of the protesters is to stay outside the Uborak landfill "to the end."

“We have no choice or other option. We have to keep fighting and be here until the landfill closes,” said Hujdur, adding that the police action from this morning was just an incentive in their fight.
