SARAJEVO, December 12 (FENA) - Topics such as competition, public health, banking and consumer protection were discussed at today's 4th meeting of the Subcommittee on the Internal Market and Competition between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This Subcommittee was set up under the Stabilization and Association Agreement and considers issues related to competition, intellectual, industrial and commercial property, public procurement, banking, insurance and other financial services, consumer protection and public health.

BiH Delegation Chairman and Assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH for economic development and entrepreneurship Brankica Pandurević explained that this body was formed to monitor BiH's progress in the European integration process.

She added that topics such as public procurement, state aid, competition, freedom to provide services and intellectual property were addressed in the first part of today's meeting.

“There has been some progress in these areas. When it comes to state aid, the Council of Ministers adopted the law, while the Bill on Public Procurement was drafted, which brings numerous improvements,” Pandurević said.

Referring to the new law on public procurement, Pandurević points out that it should ensure the introduction of an electronic public procurement process and improve overall purchasing, while providing opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Register of taxes and customs has been created in the Federation of BiH, where it is possible to obtain all information from registration to business operations of companies.

Among the priorities for the coming period will be the work on competition law, which will be accessed after the formation of the BiH Council of Ministers.

The meeting was attended by representatives of more than 30 BiH institutions.
