SARAJEVO, December 15 (FENA) - The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the Government of Switzerland will organize a Global Refugee Forum in Geneva from December 16 to 18, and it will be the first world meeting of its kind.
At the heart of the Forum will be a refugee agreement based on the principles of burden-sharing and responsibility, with the aim of translating this agreement into concrete actions through comprehensive solutions.
The Global Refugee Forum provides an opportunity to share experiences and good practices. These good practices illustrate how the comprehensive responses provided by the Global Refugee Agreement are already changing the lives of refugees and the communities that accept them in many parts of the world.
The meeting should be followed by an invitation to states, refugees, development stakeholders, the private sector, UN organizations, civil society organizations, academia and religious leaders to play a significant role in meeting the challenges.
UNHCR Regional Representative for Southeast Europe and UNHCR BiH Representative Francesca Bonelli said the Global Refugee Forum was a historic, first major meeting on refugees in the 21st century.
Bonelli believes that this is a unique opportunity to initiate action and to recapitulate progress against the objectives of the Global Refugee Agreement.
"This is an opportunity for all of us to contribute with concrete promises to create a better world for people fleeing war and persecution and ultimately to create a better world for all of us," Bonelli said.
In this regard, the Global Refugee Forum is an opportunity to catalyze innovative partnerships, Bonelli believes, between all sectors and for all relevant stakeholders to truly change the lives of refugees and their new communities.
"This is a call to vision and ambition. We hope that governments, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, will seize the Forum's opportunity to be bold and concrete in fulfilling their obligations to improve the lives of refugees and the communities that host them," Bonelli emphasized.
On behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and the Ministry of Security of BiH will participate in the first Global Refugee Forum.
Representatives of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees will present the results of the Regional Housing Program and the measures implemented to create conditions for sustainable return.
When it comes to the competences of the Ministry of Security of BiH, measures will be announced in order to improve the efficiency of the asylum system, i.e., to simplify and prioritize the asylum application procedure for the justified asylum applications and to introduce a mechanism to ensure the quality of the procedure for determining refugee status.
The focus of the first Global Refugee Forum will be placed on six areas: agreements on burden-sharing and responsibility, education, employment and independence, energy and infrastructure, solutions and protection capacities.
