Russian Embassy does not share the view of unconstitutionality of “Day of RS”

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 10 (FENA) - The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bosnia and Herzegovina does not share the views of the unconstitutionality of the "Day of Republika Srpska", the embassy said in a statement today, adding that "one should play with terminology and create problems where there are none."

“As it is very well known, the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH, to which many refer, does not refer to the Day of Republika Srpska, but to a specific provision of the Law on the Day of RS.

In fact, it was recognized by the Constitutional Court of BiH that it was contrary to the Constitution of BiH and it ceased to be valid, but this does not mean the RS Day is unconstitutional in itself, as it has not been disputed by the same decision of the Constitutional Court.

Moreover, the celebration of the Day of RS on January 9, 2020, was organized in accordance with the decision of the RS Government, made within the competences of this institution.

The constitutionality of this decision is not disputed. In this regard, we call on all parties, including representatives of the international community, to refrain from negative rhetoric, to rely on the letter of the law and to respect each other's legitimate interests and strive for peaceful cooperation in the new 2020,” stated the Embassy of the Russian Federation in BiH.
