SARAJEVO, January 15 (FENA) - A social map of the Sarajevo Canton is needed in order to respond in a targeted manner and for citizens in need to receive adequate social assistance, said the Minister of Labor, Social Policy, Displaced Persons and Refugees of the Sarajevo Canton Malik Garibija.

The pilot project of the social map of Sarajevo Canton was unveiled today, and its importance, among others, was addressed by Minister Garibija, on behalf of the expert team working on the project Žarko Papić, and OSCE representatives and the German company RegioKontext.

Garibija pointed out that the social map provides an opportunity to influence the focal points with flexible policies.

The Pilot Project Coordinator Dino Nikšić pointed out that a large survey will be conducted this year to produce the final social map, which should be completed by the end of this year.

A member of the expert team for mapping, Žarko Papić, recalled that, as he said, the last serious research on social issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina was done by the World Bank and the University of Maastricht in 2012.

According to Papić, the social map is the basis for identifying key problems in the social protection system.

The estimates so far have shown that the existing social protection system has no effect on reducing the poverty rate, and, as Papić said, does not know how many poor people are present in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He stated that the social map was trying to reach a focal point in order to come up with new data with concrete indicators of what needed to be changed.
