Apostolic Nunciature: Medal to 'Circle 99' presented as a token of remembrance

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 17 (FENA) - The Apostolic Nunciature in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a statement explaining that the Bronze Medal on the occasion of the third year of Pope Francis' pontificate, presented to Mr. Adil Kulenović, and the ‘Circle 99’ Intellectuals Association, cannot be interpreted as an award or recognition of the Vatican, but merely a medal of remembrance of a meeting held on the topic "Dialogue and Reconciliation as a Path of Peace", for the purpose of dissemination and promotion of Pope Francis' message for the 53rd World Peace Day, announced today the Apostolic Nunciature in BiH.

The medal was reportedly presented at the end of this meeting (January 12, 2020) to the president of the Association, Adil Kulenović, and was issued to the entire Association, not to him personally.

“This is simply a gesture made by Apostolic Nuncio when, for example, he visits a parish, a congregation or association, and he wards it as a token of remembrance during the campaign,” stated the diplomatic mission of the Holy See in BiH regretting any potential manipulation or exploitation of a gesture aimed at building peace, reconciliation and forgiveness.
