SARAJEVO, January 17 (FENA) - Final conference within the project Media and Information Literacy for development of critical thinking and youth advocacy was held today in Sarajevo. The conference was implemented by the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Sarajevo in cooperation with the University of East Sarajevo, the University of Banja Luka and the University of Mostar.

The project was carried out under the 'Dialogue for the Future' program, implemented by UN agencies in BiH - UNESCO, UNICEF and UNDP in partnership with the BiH Presidency.

Dean of the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo Sead Turčalo said that during the realization of this project, a really good story was made, which he is convinced will continue.

“Progress has already been made by the fact that we at the Faculty introduced media-literacy as a module for study, that our doors are open to work with anyone who is interested in this topic. We had a really great response through various workshops,” said Turčalo, and thanked the participants, as well as partners for the realization of the project.

Head of the UNESCO Office in BiH, Siniša Šešum, emphasized that media literacy for UNESCO is extremely important, emphasizing that they have had a very close cooperation with the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo since 2018.

“When we started with the first conference and when we started discussing media information literacy in BiH, I could not imagine that only two years later we would be presenting results of this extremely important project,” said Šešum.

He stated that the Faculty did not look at media literacy as an isolated unit, but as an area that could help strengthen social cohesion in BiH.

UN Joint Project Coordinator for the Dialogue for the Future, Renata Gojak, said that any good work would be recognized sooner or later.

“Thanks to the previous two years of implementing the project called Dialogue for the Future, it has been relocated to regional level, and now includes Serbia and Montenegro,” she said.

She was pleased to see people from the education sector, from primary or secondary schools, librarians, professors, teachers, but also young people who were able to attend the implementation of the project at the final conference.
