Komšić pays respect to Holocaust victims and meets with US VP Mike Pence

FENA Press release

JERUSALEM, January 23 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić headed the delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem. The Fifth World Holocaust Forum, attended by numerous national delegations, is being held in Yad Vashem.

The theme of this year's forum is "Remembering the Holocaust and Fighting Antisemitism," and Chairman Komšić, along with 40 other world leaders, also attended the event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp.

Afterward, the leaders toured the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Center and laid wreaths in the Hall of Remembrance to pay homage to Holocaust victims during World War II.

Chairman Komšić said during the conference that, unfortunately, in the world, but also in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are still elements of fascism that we must all fight against in order to provide a better environment for future generations.

"The Holocaust is a unique crime against one people, the Jewish people. The most brutal crime of the last century, remembered by all of human civilization, was carefully planned and carried out and left unprecedented consequences on the Jewish people, but also on the entire world. Unfortunately, what happened during the Nazi regime in World War II was not a lesson to some people. The people of Bosnia and Herzegovina deeply sympathize and share some of the destiny of the Jews. In recent history, the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been the victims of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing, which have claimed many lives. Personally, I feel deep sadness and compassion for the victims of the Holocaust and the Jewish people. The Holocaust must never be forgotten," Chairman Komšić said.

He stated that all of us who have witnessed the dark side of history have an obligation to oppose all forms of human evil and violence.

"Remembering the victims of the Holocaust, as well as all other victims of monstrous minds, is a lesson for new generations so they will reject ideologies that are based on segregation, intolerance, disrespect, and start caring for others and those who are different than themselves," he said.

Chairman Komšić met with US Vice President Mike Pence during the Forum today and met with Israeli President Rueven Rivil yesterday, the BiH Presidency said.
