Košarac to take over BiH presidency of CEFTA in Brussels

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Staša Košarac, will be in Brussels on January 28-30 for the formal takeover of Bosnia and Herzegovina's CEFTA presidency.

In a panel discussion organized by the CEFTA Secretariat on January 29, Košarac will outline BiH's priorities during its one-year presidency, which BiH took over from Albania in January.

"The basis for the BiH Presidency will be the implementation of the CEFTA Agreement and its additional protocols, as well as the Multi-annual Action Plan on Regional Economic Area, from which the priorities of the BiH Presidency are derived," Košarac said.

To address its commitments, BiH identified six key priorities during its one-year presidency of the CEFTA Agreement and Structures.

"BiH's priorities will be free movement of goods, removal of barriers to trade in goods, free trade in services, free flow of investment, conclusion of an additional protocol on dispute resolution and institutional development of the CEFTA body," emphasized Košarac.

He assessed that the successful implementation of the CEFTA Agreement had significantly contributed to the creation of a free trade zone in Southeast Europe.

"The CEFTA Agreement is part of a broader process aimed at faster integration of the Western Balkan countries into the EU. Consistent implementation of the provisions of this agreement creates an opportunity for faster progress of BiH in the process of European integration, which is the main foreign policy goal of the country," said Košarac.

During his stay in Brussels, Minister Košarac will hold a series of meetings with diplomatic representatives of BiH, as well as with EU officials.

Upon his arrival in Brussels on January 28, a meeting with the delegation of the EU Mission to BiH headed by Ambassador Emina Merdan and BiH Ambassador to Belgium Ivan Robović is planned.

A panel discussion, in which Minister Košarac will present the priorities of the BiH Presidency of the CEFTA Agreement and Structures, will be held on 29 January.

On the same day, Minister Košarac will meet in separate meetings with Director General for Enlargement at the European Commission Christian Danielsson and European Commissioner for Trade Phil Hogan.

On Thursday, January 30th, Minister Košarac will meet with the Director General of the European Commission's Directorate for Energy, after which he will visit the CEFTA Secretariat and the Republika Srpska representative office in Brussels, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations announced.
